    The Mountain View Restaurant

    Cape Breton, NS

Cute spot with a nice view but the service was slow and food subpar. Very few gluten free options. These included a Cajun chicken or Cajun shrimp dish only, which was comprised of plain rice, clear spicy red sauce, and the meat/fish (Cajun shrimp pictured minus the shrimp). There were no options for a dish that was both gluten free and vegetarian. My two friends both ordered the burger platters which were also underwhelming. We were grateful to have a warm meal from the only restaurant open in town, but would certainly explore other options in the future.

Salty Rose’s & the Periwinkle Cafe

    Ingonish, NS

Adore this spot. Cute name & aesthetic. Gluten free options including cinnamon twist muffin (pictured) and amaretti cookie – both very tasty! Coffee was also delicious and the iced coffee my friends got came in cute glasses with enviro-conscious paper straws with designs in them. There are also lights on the patio for evening vibes.

The attached shop sells local items including some from the Mi’kmaq First Nation.

As a bonus, it is next to the petting farm so you can combine your morning coffee with a quick visit to see the goats, donkeys, and other farm animals next door.

Overall, highly recommend this stop if you’re in Ingonish!
